Performance Matters™ is a powerful yet simple tool for teachers. The ready access to consistent color coding and detailed data for every student and classroom makes it quick and easy for teachers to interpret and act on information. The following is one example of how a teacher would use Performance Matters™. Teacher Scenario: "I teach sixth grade and the grade level expectations from fifth to sixth grade in the area of reading comprehension are quite different. In fact, many students on or above grade level in fifth grade struggled with this subject matter in sixth grade." Guiding Question: "I have 80 sixth grade students across four classes. How can I monitor those students who were at grade level in reading comprehension last year but are not mastering sixth grade reading comprehension standards this year?" Performance Matters in Action: The illustration below guides a teacher's classroom analysis to address the scenario above. An interactive classroom portfolio enables the teacher to quickly identify those students who mastered reading comprehension in years past but are struggling this year. In addition, the historical and current performance indicators are matrixed by student into a simple grid so that the teacher can quickly identify those students by name that were proficient in reading last year but are not meeting standards now. ![]()
